University of Chicago Student Found Dead in Dorm Room
Published at(CHICAGO) — A University of Chicago student found dead in his dorm room on Saturday may have been there for days until a foul odor led authorities to investigate.
According to ABC’s affiliate in Chicago, WLS, the 20-year-old student had last used his keycard to enter the dormitory on Feb. 7. Initial testing said that Nicholas Barnes’ death was not a suicide, but the Cook County Medical Examiner was unable to provide a conclusive cause of death.
Barnes, a third-year student from Pittsburgh, had not used his keycard since entering the dorm at about 11 p.m. on Feb. 7. A fellow resident of the dorm told WLS that he couldn’t understand “how the people that live next door, and the people who were responsible for his well-being could have not seen that he has been gone for a week.”
University officials made counselors available to students.
