With the game tied at 77 and 3.5 seconds left, UNC’s James Michael McAdoo hit two free throws. The Friars didn’t get off another shot as the Tar Heels (24-9) advance to take on Iowa State Sunday.

Marcus Paige scored 19 points and McAdoo had 16 points and ten rebounds in the win.

Cotton, who was playing in his final game for Providence, hit 13 of his 23 shots from the floor, added eight assists, and played all 40 minutes in the loss.

The Friars (23-12) have not won a game in the NCAA tournament since 1997.

North Carolina head coach Roy Williams is now 24-0 in Round of 64 games.
