(LOS ANGELES) — Ellen DeGeneres demonstrated at the Oscars why she’s one of the top television personalities on Twitter, as she not only broke a new record with one of her selfies but appeared to break Twitter itself.
DeGeneres vowed to set a new record with a photo of her posing with a gaggle of A-list stars sitting in the audience, including Meryl Streep, Jennifer Lawrence, Julia Roberts, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie and Kevin Spacey. She had Bradley Cooper take the photo, which she captioned, “If only Bradley’s arm was longer. Best photo ever. #oscars”
In less than an hour, DeGeneres’ photo was already up to 871,000 retweets, with 210,000 favorites. She easily surpassed the previous record holder, President Barack Obama, with his election night victory photo of him hugging wife Michelle Obama, which was retweeted 777,000 times.
Twitter confirmed the record in a tweet: “The envelope please….to @TheEllenShow – this is now the most re-tweeted Tweet with over 1 million RTs. Congrats!”
