Emma Watson Eyed for Lead in Live-Action “Little Mermaid”

Jason Kempin/Getty Images(LONDON) — Can you picture Harry Potter star Emma Watson in the title role of a live-action version of The Little Mermaid? According to The Sun, director Sofia Coppola can, and Watson is her top choice for the Disney film.
Coppola is reportedly now attached to the project and Tim Burton is developing the script.
According to The Sun, the live-action version will not have a happy ending like the 1989 Disney animated classic, but instead will have the Hans Christian Andersen book ending in which “the mermaid sacrifices herself for love.”
