The 30-year-old Finnegan took to Twitter Wednesday to post what appeared to be a goodbye:

“St.Louis thank you for your letting me play for a classy franchise and coach fish nothing but love thank you all.”

Finnegan had a rough 2013 season. He broke his orbital bone on Sept. 26 in a game against the San Francisco 49ers. He played in three more games with the injury until he eventually was placed on the injured reserve.

The Rams gave Finnegan a five-year, $50 million contract in 2012. Finnegan would have earned a $3 million roster bonus on March 13.

Despite the looming cut, Finnegan’s time in St. Louis may not be over. The St. Louis Dispatch reports Rams head coach Jeff Fisher says the team is interested in re-signing Finnegan at a lower salary.
