Kersey/Getty Images(NEW YORK) — With the 2014 regular season nearing, the Detroit Tigers are already dealing with a tough injury blow as ESPN reports shortstop Jose Iglesias will be out until at least the All-Star break and possibly the entire season with shin injuries.

This is a tough hand dealt to the Tigers as Iglesias is rated as one of the premier defensive shortstops in Major Leauge Baseball.

He was acquired by the team last season from the Boston Red Sox, and was expected to stabilize the team’s defense in the middle of the field.

To make matters worse for Detroit, the team has no clear replacement for Iglesias at shortstop. The team does have plenty of offensive potential in their infield with Miguel Cabrera and Ian Kinsler, but neither bring the type of elite defensive skills that Iglesias brought to the table.

In 110 games for the Red Sox and Tigers last season, Iglesias batted .303 with three home runs and drove in 29 runs.
