GETTY 3314 Flu? SQUARESPACE CACHEVERSION=1393843842625Tomwang112/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) — Maybe it’s the gambling or something in the water. Whatever the reason, people in Nevada last year were more likely to say they were sick with the flu on any given day than residents of any other state in the country.

The percentage of those with the flu in Nevada was 2.9 percent, followed by California with 2.6 percent and New York at 2.5 percent, according to a Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index of 500 adults.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, North Dakota, South Carolina and Vermont were tied with the lowest percentage of people reporting the flu on a daily basis in 2013 at 0.8 percent each.

The overall average of people sick with the flu in the U.S. is 2 percent daily.

As for colds, Montana leads this category with 8 percent of state respondents reporting having one on an any given day last year with Oregon next at 7.7 percent and New York and Mississippi tied for third at 6.9 percent.

State residents reporting the fewest colds were from Arizona at 3.8 percent with Kansas and Wyoming knotted at second with 4.2 percent.

Gallup admits the results may not be entirely accurate since people with colds or the flu are less inclined to respond to phone surveys.
