NATO Secretary General Calls on Russia to De-Escalate Tension in Ukraine
Published at(BRUSSELS) — The North Atlantic Treaty Organization met on Sunday and Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen announced that the organization would call on Russia to remove troops from Ukraine.
“NATO allies will continue to support Ukrainian sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity and the right of the Ukrainian people to determine their own future,” Rasmussen said. In the hopes of prompting de-escalation, NATO met on Sunday to discuss the deteriorating situation in Ukraine, where armed pro-Russian gunmen have surrounded government buildings and military bases.
Rasmussen asked Russia to “honor all its international commitments, to withdraw its forces to bases and to refrain from any interference elsewhere in Ukraine.”
