Seth Smith started the Padres rally with a pinch hit home run off Brian Wilson to tie the game at one. Wilson proceeded to walk Yasmani Grandal and then allow a two-run single to Chris Denorfia before being pulled from the game.

The Dodgers (2-1) received a strong performance from starting pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu. He pitched seven scoreless innings allowing three hits and three walks while striking out seven.  At one point Ryu retired 16 straight batters.

The Dodgers scored their only run in the fifth when outfielder Carl Crawford singled off Padres starter Andrew Cashner, allowing Dee Gordon to score.

Cashner pitched well for the Padres (1-0), allowing four hits, one run and two walks while striking out five through six innings of work.

Huston Street pitched a perfect ninth to pick up the save.

The Dodgers and Padres will resume their three-game series Tuesday. Zach Greinke will take the mound for Los Angeles. He will be opposed by Ian Kennedy.
