The 23-year-old Texan made back-to-back birdies early on the front nine holes Sunday to build a big lead, and was well on his way to the historic victory. Reed played the final hole with a two shot lead, and two-putted for bogey and closed with an even-par 72 for a one-shot victory over Bubba Watson and Jamie Donaldson.

“I don’t see a lot of guys that have done that besides Tiger Woods and the legends of the game,” Reed said. “I believe in myself, especially with how hard I’ve worked. I’m one of the top five players in the world. I feel like I’ve proven myself.”

Since 1990, only Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Phil Mickelson, and Sergio Garcia had three PGA Tour wins before turning 24.  Reed is now a part of that exclusive list.

Speaking of Woods, he entered the final round Sunday with a chance to win the whole thing. He wound up shooting a 6-over-par 78 and finished in a tie for 25th, nine strokes behind Reed.

It is Reed’s third win in his last 14 tournaments. He is expected to move up to No. 20 in the world ranking.
