Unemployment Claims Drop Slightly

(BOISE, ID) – The number of people living in the Gem State collecting unemployment benefits dropped slightly in February to 5.3 percent, the lowest amount since the latter half of the Bush administration. That’s compared to 6.7 percent nationally. Half of Idaho’s counties had unemployment rates lower than the state average, including Bannock and Bonneville counties. Experts say the positive numbers may be somewhat misleading compared to this time last year, since thousands of Idahoans lost their extended unemployment benefits in December without finding new jobs
