Initial reports say there may have been trouble with the plane’s landing gear before 6:30 p.m., according to ABC affiliate WPVI-TV. U.S. Airways says, however that the aircraft’s tire may have burst during takeoff.

Images of the aircraft show the plane resting nose-down on the runway.

All 149 passengers and five crew members on US Airways flight 1702 were evacuated from the plane, an Airbus A320 headed to Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. One passenger requested medical assistance, said airport spokeswoman Liz Landau.

A “ground stop” — an air traffic control measure aimed to slow incoming flights — was issued at the airport, said Landau. A passenger told ABC News they have been taken inside a room in the airport where they are currently waiting for the airline to tell them what’s next.
