West Virginia Upsets (8) Kansas, 92-86
Published at(MORGANTOWN, W.Va) — Andrew Wiggins did all that he could do against West Virginia, but that still wasn’t enough to erase a 25-point deficit in the second half in the Jayhawks 92-86 defeat on Saturday.
Wiggins scored 41 and pulled Kansas within five points of the Mountaineers with 21.5 seconds to go.
West Virginia knocked down 7 of 8 free throws in the final minute to hang on to the upset win.
Eron Harris scored 28 points, Juwan Staten added 24 in the victory for West Virginia. Star freshman Devin Williams followed them with a season-high 22 points along with 13 rebounds.
Even with the loss, the Jayhawks will have a first-round bye in the conference tournament after clinching their 10th straight regular season title last week.
Perry Ellis played 25 minutes and added 14 points in the loss.
