Amazon Preparing to Release Smart Phone?

EMMANUEL DUNAND/AFP/Getty Images(NEW YORK) — Amazon is preparing to release a smart phone later this year, a move that would pit the company against Apple and Samsung in an already crowded market.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Amazon has been demonstrating a prototype to developers in San Francisco and Seattle. The retailer apparently hopes to announce the phone early this summer and begin shipping the phone before the holiday shopping season.
Amazon’s phone would feature a screen that could display images that appear three-dimensional without the user needing to wear glasses, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Apple and Samsung currently take up just shy of 50 percent of the smart phone market. The Wall Street Journal reports that the plans for the Amazon phone’s design and price were not yet clear, and that current plans are still subject to change.
