Police say Dwayne Yeager, 31, of Brandon, Fla., staged an elaborate home burglary not knowing the whole thing was being caught on camera.

“I come back, my door’s wide open, my windows to my son’s bedroom are open, my TVs are laying on the ground,” Yeager allegedly told a 911 operator just after 7 a.m. Monday morning, reporting that his home had been broken into and ransacked while he was away for only 45 minutes.

Police say it all turned out to be an elaborate ruse, allegedly perpetrated by Yeager himself to get out of work. And there appears to be proof.

Surveillance video from a neighbor’s home, according to police, shows Yeager pulling up to his own home and, a few moments later, the window he told 911 about suddenly opens. Shortly after that, Yeager re-emerges moments before placing that 911 call, police said.

“I called y’all right away,” he told the operator.

When questioned further, police say, Yeager admitted he staged the whole thing because of a bad case of the Monday morning blues.

“He confessed that this case was done because he didn’t want to go to work,” Hillsborough County Sheriff’s spokesman Larry McKinnon told ABC News. “And his wife was adamant about him going.”

Yeager works as a freelance fabricator for a tech company.

A company representative said he does not work for the company directly, but for a temp agency it uses. The company declined to comment further or tell ABC News the name of the temp agency that employees him.

Yeager is now charged with first-degree misdemeanor for providing false information to law enforcement, which, if convicted, could result in a fine and even up to a year in jail. He is free Thursday morning after paying $500 bail.

ABC News has been unable to reach Yeager.
