Studded Tires Must Be Removed

(POCATELLO, ID) – Studded snow tires must be removed on all vehicles by April 30. Official with the Idaho Transportation Department say that drivers caught on roadways with studded tires after the deadline could face a $67 fine. The specialized tires are effective on icy roads, but are dangerous in normal conditions because they reduce traction between the tire and the asphalt. A 2003 law also banned heavy studs because they cause too much wear on the surfaces of highways.
