But whether the video’s removal is a victory for critics is up for debate.

The video is no longer playing because “we typically change out our safety videos every few months,” airline officials told ABC News.

But critics of the video, titled “Safety in Paradise,” are claiming victory after starting a Change.org petition against the video that drew thousands of signatures.

The video, which shows bikini-clad Sports Illustrated models, and even 60-year-old supermodel Christie Brinkley, detailing the flight’s safety rules, was criticized by many for objectifying women.

“As a husband and father, I am appalled that Air New Zealand has resorted to sexually objectifying women,” one critic wrote on the Change.org petition.

The “Safety in Paradise” video is not the first time an Air New Zealand flight safety video has drawn attention. The video featured hobbits two years ago and the airline hired Betty White last year to star in an “old school”-themed video.

Other airlines have also gotten into the act.

Virgin America released a pre-flight safety video last year set entirely to music, with the video’s instructional information communicated through singing, rapping and dance moves.

Delta Airlines kicked off the New Year in January by releasing an 80s-themed safety video featuring Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Teddy Ruxpin and Alf. The airline was previously known for “Deltalina,” which featured a sexier-than-average flight attendant.
