Blue Jays First Baseman Edwin Encarnacion Out Two Weeks
Published at(OAKLAND, Calif) — One of the hottest hitters in baseball will have to sit out the next couple weeks. Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Edwin Encarnacion will be out of action due to a quad strain.
Encarnacion not only will miss the next couple weeks, but he’ll also miss the All-Star Game.
“I’m happy to be named an All-Star. I won’t be playing. I will be working my leg to get back to the field as soon as I can,” he said.
Encarnacion suffered the injury on Saturday against the Baltimore Orioles.
This is a tough blow for a Blue Jays team trying to stay in the race for the AL East Division. Encarnacion has rebounded nicely after a tough start to the season. Through 88 games, he’s hitting .277 with 26 home runs and 70 RBIs, which both rank second in all of Major League Baseball.
