This preliminary approval from Judge Anita Brody in Philadelphia means retired players can now vote whether to accept the terms.

The former players claim head trauma during their time playing professional football caused long-term brain injuries and neurological problems. They said the National Football League knew about the risks but failed to warn them, which the league denies.

The NFL agreed last month to remove a cap on compensation awards, which the judge called “a significant improvement.” The judge says there are now “sufficient funds available to pay all claims” for the next 65 years.
