POCATELLO, Idaho (AP) – Police in southeast Idaho say an employee at a grain elevator likely prevented another man from jumping to his death.

Pocatello Police Department spokeswoman Diane Brush says a man unknown to employees climbed an external fire escape on a grain elevator in Pocatello at about 9 p.m. Tuesday.

She tells the Idaho State Journal that the man was prepared to make the 75-foot jump but a male employee went out on the fire escape and restrained him until police arrived.

Brush says the suicidal person struggled but the employee held tight.

The Pocatello Fire Department used its ladder truck to get the potential jumper down from the elevator.

The man was taken to Portneuf Medical Center.

Names haven’t been released.
