The impending House lawsuit charges the president with misusing his executive authority by making unilateral changes to various laws.  Obama fired back that it’s nothing more than a political stunt.

Using the I-495 bridge in Delaware as a backdrop, the president appealed to the GOP’s “sense of patriotism,” adding, “Let’s focus on our country, let’s focus on our people, a sense of common purpose. That’s how we built this country together, and that’s what Washington has to remember.”

He pointed to the bridge as an example of how Congress can work together, since repairs are being paid for by a federal fund.

However, the president has had less luck in getting Republicans to permanently fund the Highway Trust Fund, although House lawmakers did pass a $10.8 billion measure that would cover costs for building and repairs of the nation’s infrastructure through May 2015.

House Speaker John Boehner maintains the bill is proof that Republicans will compromise on economic issues.
