A statement from the U.S. embassy in Israel states that Chief of Mission personnel will not be allowed to travel south of Tel Aviv without prior approval, and embassy families are being urged to remain at home.

The embassy will continue to monitor the situation, which has grown tense in recent days, after Palestinian militants fired around 150 rockets at Israeli cities, and Israel launched a retaliatory offensive in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday.

“Revent events underscore the importance of situational awareness,” the embassy said.
