Embassy officials in Uganda have learned of a “specific threat” by an unknown terrorist group against the Entebbe International Airport and say it could happen Thursday.

In a statement Thursday, the State Department warned U.S. citizens traveling or living in Uganda to remain aware of surroundings, including at local events, monitor local news for updates and take steps to increase personal security.  Additionally, the State Department is encouraging people to enroll in the STEP, or Smart Traveler Enrollment Program, to receive security updates and maintain easier emergency communication with the U.S. embassy or nearest U.S. consulate.

The travel warning comes just one day after the U.S. announced it is enhancing security around incoming direct flights from overseas where they fear bomb makers are perfecting explosives that won’t set off airport security machines.
