Valbuena Leads Cubs Past Reds, 6-4
Published at(CINCINNATI) — Cubs third baseman Luis Valbuena tripled home two runs in the 12th inning as Chicago (39-52) defeated the Cincinnati Reds (49-43) on Thursday 6-4 to avoid the five-game sweep.
Reds starter Homer Bailey allowed three earned runs and two hits over five innings of work. He left the game after feeling pain his right knee while attempting to throw a pitch to Cubs shortstop Starlin Castro.
Blake Parker (1-0) picked up the victory in relief for Chicago with two scoreless innings.
Reds outfielder Ryan Ludwick hit his sixth home run of the season in the top of the third inning.
