Molina has been out of action since tearing the ulnar collateral ligament in his right (throwing) thumb back on July 9.

After taking part in batting practice Tuesday, the plan is for Molina to catch five or six innings for Double-A Springfield on Wednesday.

“My thumb feels great,” Molina told the Springfield News-Leader. “I’m in really good shape. I’m happy with the way everything is going. I can’t wait for tomorrow. I’m going to be nervous. …It’s been a long time. It’s been the longest two months ever. But I’m so excited to come back on the field.”

The 32-year-old Molina is still one of the best catchers in baseball. In 83 games this season, Molina is batting .287 with 7 home runs and 30 RBIs.
