UK Man, 26, Arrested on Suspicion of Preparing Act of Terrorism

Sergiy Tryapitsyn/iStockphoto/Thinkstock(LONDON) — A 26-year-old British man was arrested on Monday night in Cornwall on suspicion of preparing an act of terrorism.
The Devon Cornwall Police did not identify the man, but said he was arrested under Section 5 of the U.K.’s Terrorism Act. The suspect was questioned by officers from the South East Counter Terrorism Unit.
Local Police Area Commander Jim Pearce said that the arrest was pre-planned and was not a response to an immediate threat to public safety.
The Metropolitan Police Service has been seeking to identify individuals susceptible to radicalization and to remove extremist material from the Internet. In August, the MPS said that there had been five times as many terrorism-related arrests made in the U.K. in 2014 as at the same point last year.
