Ralf Juergens/Getty Images(MOSCOW) — Former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev is lashing out again, this time saying the United States needs to change its ways.
Gorbachev said he thinks the U.S. needs perestroika-style reforms, referring to the historic restructuring he implemented at the end of the Soviet Union.
The former Soviet leader told Russia’s state-owned RT television that the U.S. needs to change its ways and stop trying to pressure other countries.
“The U.S. needs an enemy in order to return to their old policy of pressure,” he said. “They can’t live without it. They are still enslaved by their old policy.”
Gorbachev is celebrated abroad as the one who ended the Cold War, but he is widely despised in Russia — seen as the one who surrendered the empire.
Recently, he’s changed his tune, publicly supporting Russian President Vladimir Putin.
