Two More Men Plead Guilty to Environmental Crimes in Connection with 2014 WV Chemical Spill

Photo by Tom Hindman/Getty Images(CHARLESTON, W.Va.) — Two former officials with Freedom Industries pleaded guilty to environmental crimes in federal court on Wednesday.
The two men, Michael Burdette and Robert Reynolds, had faced charges in connection with the January 2014 Elk River chemical spill. Both men pleaded guilty to negligently discharging the chemical MCHM into the river without a permit.
According to a press release from the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of West Virginia, sentencing for the two men is scheduled for June 24.
Two other men, former owners, officers and directors of Freedom Industries — William Tis and Charles Herzing — pleaded guilty to environmental crimes linked to the same spill on Monday.
