Jury finds Jefferson sheriff guilty

  Published at

TWIN FALLS — Jefferson County Sheriff Blair Olsen was convicted of three counts of misuse of public funds Wednesday night for inappropriate use of a county paid cellphone.

The Idaho Falls Post Register reports a jury of Twin Falls County residents returned the guilty verdicts about 8 p.m.

Deputy Prosecutor Jason Spillman, of the Idaho Attorney General’s Office, argued that evidence from call records showed the phone mainly used to contact the family of Marie Olsen, the sheriff’s wife, according to the newspaper.

“The amounts in this case are small, ” Spillman said before the verdicts were announced. “But the violation of the public’s trust was huge.”
