FIFA Committee to Elect New President in February 2016
Published at | Updated at(ZURICH) — A new president will be chosen to head FIFA on Feb. 26, 2016. The organization’s Executive Committee announced its decision Monday to vote early next year, allowing Sepp Blatter to stay in the role through the end of this year.
Blatter announced last month that he would resign after U.S. officials indicted several FIFA officials and marketing executives on corruption charges.
The committee also proposed several important reforms that will be up for a vote at the upcoming Congress in February. Among those changes are enhanced integrity checks for Executive Committee members, the introduction of term limits, higher governing standards at all levels and individual disclosure of compensation, according to FIFA’s website.
