On July 7, a Cessna C-150 crashed into an F-16 launched from Shaw Air Force Base, killing the two people on board the civilian plane. The report states that the collision occurred at about 11 a.m. and that the F-16 remained in the air for another three minutes. The U.S. Air Force pilot ejected from the plane before it crashed to the ground. Both planes were destroyed in the crash.

The civilian aircraft took off from Berkley County Airport and was destined for Grand Strand Airport in North Myrtle Beach, S.C.

The pilot of the F-16 was apparently conducting a practice tactical approach at the time of the crash.

The F-16 pilot was apparently warned of the other plane — which traffic controllers believed to be just 100 feet below the F-16, seconds before the crash.
