Top Mexican Prison Officials Fired over El Chapo Prison Escape
Published at | Updated at(NEW YORK) — Three top prison officials have been fired, following the escape of Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, who broke out of a maximum security facility in Mexico this past weekend for the second time.
The Interior Minister said guards must have helped El Chapo escape the Altiplano maximum-security prison in Almoloya de Juarez and, if true, that would be an act of treason in Mexico. Now the prison’s director, as well as Mexico’s national prison coordinator and the head of the country’s prison system have all been terminated from their jobs.
There have been no reported sightings or publicized leads since the search for Guzman began.
Thirty-two prison employees have been questioned, along with eight inmates near El Chapo’s cell.
