When Jeremy Clarkson’s BBC contract for Top Gear was not renewed after reportedly punching a producer, there was a lot of buzz over which network or media giant would pick up the popular reality series.

After some reports that Netflix was the winner, eventually Amazon became the highest bidder and announced the series with Clarkson, James May, and Richard Hammond would be released on Amazon Instant Video.

There’s been no word on how much the three are being paid, but Bezos told The Telegraph, the deal was “very, very, very expensive,” and the trio are “worth a lot and they know it.”

Will the show become a new breakthrough for Amazon Prime?

“It can’t just be one show, it has to be a number of things,” Bezos told The Telegraph. “We have a lot of things in the pipeline, which I think viewers in the UK and around the world are going to love. And I think Clarkson’s new show is going to be one of those.”

The untitled show is due on Amazon Prime next year.
