Idaho Falls woman dies in two-vehicle crash north of Blackfoot

BLACKFOOT– Idaho State Police investigated a fatal two-vehicle crash on Interstate 15 near milepost 99 at approximately 5:22 p.m. Aug. 24.

Julie Gustafson, 41, of Mesa, Ariz., was driving northbound on I-15 when her 2005 Acura TSX was struck in the rear by a 2013 Toyota Avalon, driven by Susan Horwith, 70, of Idaho Falls.

The Acura went through the median and across the southbound lanes of I-15, finally stopping on the right shoulder, according to an Idaho State Police news release.

The Toyota went off the right shoulder of the northbound lanes and went through a fence before rolling.

Horwith was not wearing a seatbelt, according to the news release, and was ejected from the vehicle. The Idaho Falls woman was declared dead at the scene.

Gustafson was transported by ground ambulance to Bingham Memorial Hospital. She was wearing a seatbelt, according to the news release.

The family of the Mesa woman has been notified of the accident.

This crash is under investigation by the Idaho State Police.
