More Losses on Wall Street as Unemployment Claims Rise
Published at | Updated at(NEW YORK) — Thursday marked a day of losses on Wall Street as the Labor Department reported uninspiring unemployment numbers.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell to 17419.75, down 120.72 from its open. The Dow has posted losses six sessions in a row.
The Nasdaq dipped 83.51 to a close of 5056.44, while the S&P 500 slid to a close of 2083.56, dropping 16.28.
The Labor Department’s unemployment report showed 270,000 Americans applies for unemployment insurance. That figure is 3,000 higher than the previous week. Still, the four-week moving average dropped by 6,500.
July jobs numbers are set to be released Friday morning.
