The Hebrew University and Hadassah Medical Center are joining forces to tackle autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in a $75 million project to build an interdisciplinary autism center.

News of the project comes after a recent Israeli study that says autism can be diagnosed by testing an infant’s sense of smell.

According to Hebrew University Medical School Dean David Lichtstein, he hopes the center and its interdisciplinary approach will allow breakthroughs in autism research as well as diagnosis and treatment.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says about 1 in 68 children are affected with autism.
