Stocks Mostly Up on Wednesday, Employment Rises

The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed down 0.33 to finish at 17402.51.

The Nasdaq picked up 7.60 to close at 5044.39, while the S&P 500 ended the session at 2086.05, up 1.98 from its open.

According to the U.S. Labor Department, employment has risen more than 2 percent with 5.2 million job openings in June, the highest in sixth months. It’s also the second highest total since June 2009.

In the Midwest prices are spiking to the point where one Chicago gas station owner had to raise prices 30 cents per gallon in less than an hour. The cause? A ruptured pipeline at an Indiana oil refinery.

Rite Aid announced they will accept mobile payments at its checkout counters beginning Aug. 15. Shoppers can use Apple Pay, Google Wallet, and soon Android Pay.
