Idaho commerce director to step down

BOISE — Jeffery Sayer, director of the Idaho Department of Commerce, is stepping down.

Sayer, who has held the position since October 2011, is stepping down at the end of the year to “pursue private business opportunities,” the governor’s office announced Friday.

“We are losing a champion of collaborative economic development efforts that benefit all of Idaho. His innovations and improvements at Commerce – as well as the relationships he’s built with business leaders, legislators, chambers of commerce and economic development groups throughout the state – have given new meaning to ‘connecting the dots’ and bringing more and better career opportunities to Idaho,” Gov. C.L. “Butch” Otter said.

Sayer crafted and implemented various programs that brought thousands of jobs to the state. He also served as chairman of Otter’s Leadership in Nuclear Energy Commission.

Before he became director, he was a managing partner in the Novayx Group, an Idaho Falls-based business consultancy, and chief financial officer for Mountain View Hospital in Idaho Falls.

Sayer said his time serving with Idaho’s leadership and the Department of Commerce was an honor.

“I now look forward to re-entering the private sector and contributing to Idaho’s future there,” he said.

The governor’s office is looking for Sayer’s replacement. If you are interested in the job, contact Ann Beebe at (208) 334-2100 or ann.beebe@gov.idaho.gov. Click here for an application form.
