East Idaho Eats: Sugary drink and treat shop a massive success in Rexburg

REXBURG – Walk into The Soda Vine in Rexburg and you might think you’ve entered the 1950’s.

Bright colors, fancy decorations, red leather sofas and oldies music greet hundreds of people every day.

The customers are there for a sweet treat and there are tens of thousands of drink choices to satisfy their cola craving.

The Soda Vine opened June 2014. At first, business was slow but word spread quick and now there are often lines out the door.

“The owner decided to go with the 50’s vibe in here,” Manager Ali Fredrickson said. “She’s a culinary teacher over at the high school and she really wanted to give her students a place to put those skills into play.”

Nearly 20 percent of Idahoans drink at least one soda a day, according to the Center for Disease Control. The Soda Vine is tapping into that crowd and those who just want to try something unique.

“Our twisted drinks — which is coconut, lime, fresh lime, and cream in whatever soda you want — those are really really popular,” Fredrickson said.

The Soda Vine is known for more than just sugary drinks. Pink frosted sugar cookies, brought to Rexburg from St. George, Utah, are a draw for people from all over the Upper Valley.

Other food items, like popcorn, nachos and other snacks, are sold at The Soda Vine and the pop shop is looking at possibly adding more treats to the menus.

If business continues to do well, The Soda Vine may look at opening additional locations.
