REXBURG — Authorities are investigating a string of laptop burglaries at men’s apartment complexes in Rexburg.

Rexburg Police Department reports show at least three apartments were burglarized in the early morning hours of Saturday, Nov. 21.

Cpt. Randy Lewis said a backpack and two laptops were taken from an residence at Alpine Chalet at 460 South 2nd West, while the occupants of the apartments slept. The residents of a second Alpine Chalet apartment also called police on Saturday to report three laptops were taken while they slept.

Additionally, police also responded to nearby Brookside Village Apartments at 487 South 3rd West, where a single laptop was reported stolen.

In all three cases the apartments were unlocked and there was no signs of forced entry.

“Somebody entered the unlocked apartments during the early morning on the 21st,” Lewis said. “The people were there, but were clueless to the thefts until they went looking for (the laptops) later that day.”

Authorities believe all three thefts are related, but they have no suspects at this time.
