Update: Crews have repaired the water main break and traffic is back to normal.

Update: City spokesperson Kerry McCullough said on Tuesday, Dec. 29, crews had repaired four to five leaks around town since Sunday, and employees have been working around the clock since then. One break resulted in a flooded basement in Brentwood, and the city had to track the owners down, as they were gone for the winter. She said the breaks are due to the cold temperatures and frost below the ground.

The following is a news release from the city of Idaho Falls on Monday, Dec. 28.

IDAHO FALLS — The Public Works Department will be repairing a broken water main on Lincoln Road just east of Northgate Mile tonight and tomorrow, Dec. 28-29. Traffic flows will be impacted.

At this point, it is believed that cold temperatures caused the breakage.

Crews will excavate the road tonight, followed by repair of the water main and patch work tomorrow.

During repairs, the eastbound thru traffic on Lincoln Road will be reduced to one lane and likely shifted to the center turn bay.

The goal is to have the repair work done tomorrow afternoon, before the evening commute. However, the schedule may need to be adjusted due to the cold temperatures and the nature of the water main break.

Please watch for equipment and workers and follow all traffic signs and flaggers.
