Mother writes message to thief who stole her wallet at church

WEST RICHLAND, Wash. — A young mother who had her wallet stolen at church has a message for the thief – and she’s proudly sharing it Facebook.

Leisha Montoya is an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-say Saints. She said last Sunday, Jan. 31, someone took her wallet during or after a combined meeting in her ward’s Relief Society room.

“I realized it was missing the next day because I don’t shop on Sunday and didn’t need it,” Montoya, a former BYU-Idaho student, told EastIdahoNews.com.

Montoya searched the house, the church, her car, and the lost and found. She realized the wallet had likely been stolen.

That’s when she went on Facebook and posted this message:

Montoya says she since posted the message Wednesday night, the response on her Facebook page has been overwhelming. She wonders if the thief, who likely attends church with her, has seen it.

“Maybe it will help this person, if I am (Facebook) friends with them, to realize they aren’t just taking my money,” Montoya said. “Maybe this will be a teaching experience that one small decision can alter so much.”
