The following is a news release from Pocatello/Chubbuck School District #25.

POCATELLO -– Students at Indian Hills Elementary school held a special charitable event to bring smiles to orphaned children in the Philippines. They identified three orphanages that badly need toothbrushes and do not have the resources to obtain them.

The school’s student council kicked off the service project with an assembly earlier this month with speakers who spoke to the importance of the project.

Dr. Mike Sutton explained the importance of a toothbrush and what happens when a child doesn’t have one. Mrs. O’Berry described the orphanages and schools in the Philippines where students, if they have a toothbrush at all, may have to share it. As a follow up to hearing the importance of toothbrushes, the student body secretary spoke on the importance of helping others simply because it is the right thing to do.

Students were allowed to purchase the opportunity to wear a hat to school for a quarter and the school encouraged friends and families to donate toothbrushes. In just three days, the school had gathered 1,287 toothbrushes. They currently have 1,500 toothbrushes which will be donated to the orphanages in the Philippines.
