Local firefighters help two of their own by re-roofing house

RIGBY — Jefferson County firefighters spent a portion of their weekend doing service for two of their own.

On Saturday, firefighters and EMTs from the Central Fire District spent the day re-roofing Victor Gallegos’ home.

Victor Gallegos and his brother Jose Gallegos have been firefighters and EMTs with the district since 2012. The brothers mother recently began a battle with cancer, which put a much needed roofing project on hold.

“It was decided that we would re-roof their house as this was one project the Gallegos family had to postpone while dealing with their mother’s illness,” Assistant Chief Carl Anderson told EastIdahoNews.com. “Sadly their mother recently passed due to cancer and the Station 1 family wanted to show their love and compassion for the Gallegos family. We came together and will have the re-roof project completed today.”

Anderson told EastIdahoNews.com that since the Gallegos boys were hired at the Rigby Station, the whole Gallegos family has been accepted into the “firefighter’s family”.

“When I joined the fire department, I was just expecting to help others in their time of need and doing something for our community, but what I found was a group of guys and gals I call family now.” Gallegos told EastIdahoNews.com. “No matter the time or day they are with you to celebrate happiness or give you a shoulder to cry on when your going through a hard time. I am truly blessed to be part of the Rigby Central Fire Department.”
