REXBURG — Individuals and families will have the chance to learn from professors on the Brigham Young University-Idaho campus this summer at Education Week.

“As an education week coming from BYU-Idaho we want to draw from the expertise of the professors here and give them opportunities to teach in areas and subjects that people may not otherwise have the opportunity to learn about,” said Brett Sampson, director of University Public Affairs.

Education Week goes from Thursday, July 28, through Saturday, July 30, and will feature speakers, activities and classes on various topics. Each year, about 2,000 participants attend Education Week.

More than 50 teachers have been chosen from the BYU-Idaho faculty along with other experts from the surrounding areas and nearby states. Four keynote speakers have been selected for the event.

“We have set our purpose as being to strengthen individuals and families for lifelong learning, and as a university we’re in a position to be able to provide teachers on a variety of topics,” Sampson said.

Speakers include S. Michael Wilcox, a retired instructor and author, Charles Andersen, vice president of University Resources at BYU-Idaho, Susan Grant of the communication faculty at BYU-Idaho, and Chris Williams, author of “Let it Go: A True Story of Tragedy and Forgiveness.”

Children and youth are welcome to participate in Education Week through age-specific classes and activities. These courses are facilitated by trained BYU-Idaho students.

Unlike years past, Education Week is adding another concert as it partners with BYU-Idaho’s Center Stage arts series. Mervin Goldstein and Vanessa Joy will perform on Thursday, and Hilary Weeks and Nik Day will perform Friday. The public is invited to attend these events, and prices are reduced for Education Week participants.

Registration for Education Week is currently open. Early-bird enrollment is $35 per individual, and children 5 and under are free. Information about Education Week registration, schedules, classes and teachers can be found here.
