AMMON — Two individuals were arrested on a variety of drugs-related offenses, in addition to a misdemeanor injury to a child and providing false information to police early Sunday morning.

Around 12:30 a.m., a Bonneville County Sheriff’s Deputy noticed a suspicious vehicle in the Trellis Square Business Park on 14th North in Ammon.

“A deputy noticed the car, because there was no business in that area that were open at the time … he went up and made contact with them,” Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt Bryan Lovell told EastIdahoNews.com.

Upon making contact the deputy found that a man and woman were inside along with two toddler-age children. Both the man and woman provided false names to the deputy, according to a news release, but were later identified as Ashley Tonks and Tanner Baker. The children were the niece and nephew of Baker, Lovell said. The children had been in the care of Tonks and Baker.

During the investigation the deputy could smell the odor of burnt marijuana. The deputy searched the vehicle found about 9 grams of marijuana, 10 grams of methamphetamine and several items of drug paraphernalia. The deputy also found a loaded handgun in the area where Baker was sitting.

Once the identity of Tonks and Baker were confirmed they were found to have outstanding warrants and were taken to the Bonneville County Jail, according to a news release.

The two children were released to their mother, who had arrived at the scene during the investigation.

Tonks was booked into jail for a felony and two misdemeanor warrants, felony possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, misdemeanor providing false information to law enforcement, two counts of misdemeanor injury to child and failure to purchase a driver’s license.

Baker was booked into jail for two misdemeanor warrants, possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, possession of drug paraphernalia, felon in possession of a firearm, and providing false information to law enforcement.
