Idaho Falls neighborhoods without power following early morning crash

Power has been restored to the north of Idaho Falls, near Sage Lakes Golf Course.

IDAHO FALLS — Dozens of homes are without power and a portion of North Fifth West in Idaho Falls is closed following an early morning crash that sent two people to the hospital.

The two-vehicle wreck happened around 1 a.m. between Independence Drive and West 33rd North. At least one Rocky Mountain Power pole and one Idaho Falls Power pole were damaged and lying in the road.

Officials believe one vehicle may have hit a power pole and the second vehicle slammed into the first – resulting in another power pole being hit.

Idaho Falls Fire Battalion Chief Lance Jonhson told EastIdahoNews.com that two victims traveling in a pick-up truck had to be extricated and were rushed to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center as full trauma patients.

Folks living in nearby neighborhoods have been without power for over eight hours. Crews hope to have electricity restored by noon today.
