UPDATE:

Officials report power has been restored across east Idaho. If customers are without power they can call Rocky Mountain Power at 1-877-508-5088 to report the outage.

Original Story:

REXBURG — Some 7,000 customers in the Upper Valley are still without or have sporadic power due to complications from an ongoing wind storm.

Rocky Mountain Power spokesman Paul Murphy tells EastIdahoNews.com the cause of the outage was due to an overheated insulator at 2nd West in Rexburg. The insulator began to arc, which could have been caused by wind, debris, or equipment failure.

Internet blackouts have also been reported by viewers throughout eastern Idaho.

Murphy said there have been power outages in Ammon, Ashton, Chester, Marysville, Newdale, Rigby, St. Anthony, Sugar City and Teton throughout the day. At one point today more than 24,000 customers were without power throughout east Idaho.

Rocky Mountain Power has crews in various locations investigating the outages.

Some 300 Rigby customers are still without power and have been since 11:40 a.m. Crews are working on restoration.

Murphy reported over 100 Ammon customers experienced an outage that began Monday morning due to wind. Power was restored earlier this afternoon.

Officials say power should be restored throughout the area by at least 4:00 p.m.

Rocky Mountain Power reminds customers to treat all down wires as alive and dangerous.
