Suspicious package shuts down Afton’s main street

AFTON, Wyoming — Afton’s Main Street was shut down today and evacuated as a precaution after a suspicious package was reported near Wells Fargo.

According to information provided by law enforcement, the package was reported by a concerned citizen.

Emergency personnel who responded to the scene included the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Afton Police Department, Star Valley EMS and Afton Fire Department.

An assisting agency from Teton County has been notified of the incident and is in route to the scene.

According to local law enforcement, the Teton County team will assist with the investigation and removal of the suspicious package before the area is cleared and reopened to the public.

Law enforcement is asking people in the area to avoid the main street block of Afton until the situation is resolved.
