MALIBU, British Columbia — Searchers are looking for a Challis Junior-Senior High School student who disappeared while at a summer camp in Canada.

Hanwoo Lee, a 19-year-old South Korean citizen who was attending school in Challis, disappeared Wednesday at the retreat northeast of Powell River, British Columbia.

Lee was among a group of 350 kids from across North America who were attending Malibu Club, a Christian youth camp run by Young Life Mission.

A mother of one of the students contacted EastIdahoNews.com and says around 150 teenagers from Idaho are attending the camp.

Parents received a short letter Thursday that read:

The Young Life Mission is saddened by the recent accident at Malibu Club after a camper entered the waterway at camp. The camp and Canadian search teams have searched for the camper. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of this camper. We continue to care for and provide support to our guests and campers.

The remote campsite is accessible only by boat or plane. Parents have not spoken with their children since camp began, the mother told EastIdahoNews.com.

Lee’s group arrived at Malibu Club on Saturday. Young Life Mission staff tell CTV Vancouver that Lee somehow entered fast-moving waters near the camp and went missing.

Rescue crews spent hours Wednesday and Thursday searching for Lee in the water and from the air, according to CTV Vancouver.

The search resumed Friday morning.

Lee’s cousin tells CTV News that Lee’s parents are on their way to Vancouver from Seoul and will make their way to the remote area together.
